Growing Tulips

Growing tulips in the flower garden is a pretty easy thing to do. The hardest thing about growing tulips may be choosing a variety to plant in your garden. The bulbs are best planted in groups for the best effect. To plant a grouping, first mark off the area you wish to plant them. Lay a section of rope in the shape you want the group to be in on the ground. Dig the dirt out of this marked area to a depth of six to eight inches. Sprinkle some bone meal or a good fertilizer for bulbs in the bottom of the hole and scratch in well. Lay the bulbs in the bottom of the hole, about six inches apart. Refill the hole with the dirt, pat down with the shovel. If you have trouble with chipmonks and deer, you might try laying a bit of chicken wire fencing over the spot. This may deter the deer. Chipmonks will probably just dig around the wire.
